President’s message - November 2021
Another driving season is quickly coming to an end and what a
challenging season it has been with many events either getting
cancelled or changed due to COVID restrictions. Yours truly and
his trusty navigator had a chance to enjoy the rural roads around southern
Alberta as we participated in numerous social distancing drives with the our
local clubs. Overheating was a problem ( the driver not the car) in the 35 C
summer temperatures as I have sold my roadster and replaced it with a more
weather friendly non air conditioned GT . We drove in so smoke this summer
that the interior of the GT started to smell like a fire pit.
During the upcoming non-driving months, many clubs will be holding their
annual meetings and asking for volunteers to join the their leadership teams.
These leadership teams are key to the success of the club so if you are a new
member , it is a great way to meet other club members and learn new skills
and if you are long time member that hasn’t been involved for a few years,
volunteer to mentor the new members as they take on leadership roles. Times
change with in clubs so support the new members on the leadership teams
even if they want to change the way it has always been done. Remember the
health of the club is determined by the involvement of it’s members.
On behalf of the SVAA board, I would like to thank all the club volunteers who
worked closely with their local health regions to plan, organize and run events
that met local COVID restrictions. Many of the restrictions changed over the
driving season forcing event organizers to put in a lot of extra time to make
their events successful.
