SVAA was formed in the early 1970’s in part to grow awareness of the classic automotive community. Healthy clubs need new members.

The industry needs people entering to automotive careers.

In 2020, the SVAA board commissioned a detailed survey of member clubs and subscribers to the SVAA website.
The results reinforced the board desire to act on Scholarships and continue the focus on Young Owner and Young Driver awareness.

Some SVAA member clubs provide scholarships to encourage careers in the automotive industry

There are a few programs in Alberta to introduce young drivers to the classic car passion.

In Spring of 2020, the SVAA board approved the creation of the Scholarship and Young Owners Program Working Group. The group was charged with investigating ideas for Scholarships and Young Owners awareness program. Volunteers from around the province got engaged. Working group meets at least once a quarter via zoom for a 1 hour meeting to get updates from activities.

We are a working group, not a meeting group!

The SVAA Board approved funding for Scholarships and Young Owners Program through use of advertising revenues generated from the Alberta Rides Magazine. An advertising flyer was created.

The working group got to work.  If you have a potential advertiser that you can introduce us to, please contact one of the working group listed above.
Alberta Rides May 2021 magazine was the first issue with advertising restarted. With strong advertising support, by summer of 2021, advertisers supported 4 X $1250 scholarships - 2 each for NAIT and SAIT autobody/technician students starting in January 2022.

Young owners/Drivers Programs has been hibernating and will be restarting investigation and delivery of activities and information.

SVAA has a long time association with the Reynold-Alberta Museum/Hagerty Young Drivers summer weekend. SVAA members provide their vehicles to get young people familiar with classic vehicles – like what is a stick shift and how does it work. Similar ideas/venues to getting young people experiences are in the works.

If either Scholarships or Young Owners Program are an area you would like to be involved with, we would love to talk with you. Please contact one of the Working Group members listed below.
